HOW TO GROW AND HARVEST DIAKON AND WHITE ICILE RADISH
radish there are two varieties of radish
that we've been growing one is the white
icicle and the other variety being the
daikon radish the the Chinese or the
Japanese radish so this one that I just
pulled out is a daikon they grow pretty
well in this kind of weather but I think
the icicle is slightly better as you can
see here this is another daikon they
grow pretty big now this one's a smaller
one though I think we could have left it
to grow a little longer but then it
increases is the the pungency of the
radish so that's how you know when to
harvest radish harvested soon for less
pungency so here are some radish growing
in containers this one is also the
daikon variety and radish grows pretty
well in containers as well you just need
some nice soil and less nitrogen more
phosphorus and potassium you could use
an all-purpose organic fertilizer for
this you can see some of these roots
forking out that's a sign that the
radish is a little late for harvest so
you might want to harvest your radish a
little sooner let's try to pull one more
radish out there we go and that's about
a perfect radish
now here's the other variety that I was
talking about the Icicle the white
icicle radish pretty popular here in the
United States you can easily get the
seeds in any of your local garden stores
and they're very easy to grow they are
ready for harvest pretty quick this is a
nice size one look at the volume of the
tradition looks pretty good they're
ready to harvest in about a month maybe
a month and a half so you're going to
get a really good crop if you if you
grow white icicle and again these grew
lovely in containers
let's pull another one this is actually
a daikon it's not the white icicle so
once your radishes are arrested you're
going to nicely wash this watch the
roots as well as the leaves and the
radish leaves as well as the roots are
are both both edible the greens make the
greens are very delicious they're
they're pungent but delicious and then
of course the radish can be the flesh of
the radish can also be used so happy
