HOW TO HARVEST CUCUMBERS AND DILL
harvest of dill a variety of dill called
fallen leaf dill and also we will be
seeing the harvest of cucumbers this
cucumber variety is called the Sumter
cucumber so these are the seeds we use
for the phone leaf dill and we are
growing this dill in a container a very
small container and as you can see the
dill grows pretty well so it's time to
harvest the dill so it's very easy as
you can see I've harvested some here
dill is a cool season crop however you
can grow it easily in the summer in
semi-shade
so this is a 12-inch container that we
have been growing our dill in and dill
has shallow roots so you do not need a
very big sized container it's a herb
that grows great in such small
containers so let's go ahead and harvest
this dill and the more you harvest the
more it grows back all you do is take
scissors and start cutting the top part
of the dill
so if you're wondering why should I grow
dill
the answer is dill is very nutritious
it's not only delicious but it has a lot
of vitamins and minerals that your body
will love there are many ways to prepare
dill you can cook at steam at you can
even juice it if you have a nice juicer
and once you start growing dill and get
used to its taste I'm sure you will keep
growing dill again and again in your
garden so that's what a harvest looks
like nice and fresh dill is always nice
when you harvest it fresh and use it and
that's our container and within a few
days the dill will grow back produce new
leaves and you can keep harvesting it
again and again throughout the growing
season so we use these seeds for our
cucumber the Sumter cucumber is very
easy to grow and it also produces
abundantly
so cucumber as you know is a summer crop
it loves heat and this particular
variety actually is a prolific grower
and produces quite good-sized cucumbers
I must say they're mostly medium to
large and they will keep growing if you
let them grow so to harvest we just
twist the cucumber till the attached
part snaps off just to that it's a
pretty good sized cucumber right there
here's another one it's a small one will
let up draw some more baby cucumbers
growing
so the sticky trap that you see there is
actually a very nice organic way to
control insects
here's another cucumber it looks pretty
good
this one looks big enough to be
harvested so let's go ahead and get this
one
there we go nice and easy
and let's get this one as well
these cucumbers have a lot of spines on
them that's one thing about the Sumter
cucumber but you can just scrape it off
let's get another one
there we go that looks pretty good now
we let this cucumber grow and look at
how big it's become and the best thing
about cucumbers is that even if they
become big they still taste pretty good
you don't have to harvest them when they
are young you can wait for them to get
to full size and then you can harvest
them so that looks pretty big and as I
mentioned it won't get fibrous when it's
big so that's a good part about
cucumbers so let's go ahead and take a
weighing of this cucumber so it's about
1 pound and thirteen point three ounces
it's pretty good size because this plant
produces a lot of cucumbers so having a
cucumber of that size is pretty good
here's another big one let's go ahead
and harvest it
there we go
