GROWING SHELLING TYPE GREEN PEAS

when was the last time you went into your garden shelled some fresh green peas and ate them fresh right off the pods So shelling peas are different from snap peas and we will be looking at growing shelling type peas in today's you can easily grow green peas in containers you can either sow the seeds directly in a container as you see here we're using this 16 inch wide container in which you can directly sow the seeds and green peas transplant very well so you can even sow the seeds in a starting kit as you see here and then transplant the seedlings once they reach about two or three inches in height by using the transplanting technique you can actually ensure a healthier life for your green peas because you can choose the healthiest plants and discard the ones that were not very healthy so in this case we are planting four plants in this container and we will also be using some kind of trellis or support so that the plants are well supported now green peas are winter-loving plants so when it's wet and cold and when most of the other plants are not growing in your garden these green peas will thrive so this makes them an ideal candidate for winter gardening so twenty days since planting you can see that the plants have started growing well the soil I'm using is there is rich in organic material green peas do not need any kind of fertilizer to grow I've noticed that just by using compost and good organic material in your soil you can grow some great green peas and 30 days since planting you can see that the green pea plants have started using the trellis as support for watering the green peas I'm using a drip irrigation system I'll soon have a video on how my drip irrigation system works and you can see that the plans have started growing pretty well and green peas are one of the plants that really require no maintenance at all and I haven't seen any slugs orsnails attacking the green peas plants as well now this green pea variety will keep producing pods like these and unlike the sugar snap peas which is eaten with the pods this pea variety is only grown for its green peas which are formed inside the pods so you would eat the peas inside the pods and then discard the outer shell so you can see the peas have started forming now and this variety of peas which is called recruit is usually ready for harvest in about 75 days so let's go ahead and harvest these green peas as you can see the green peas have formed inside the shell they're pretty decently sized and eating fresh they are just so amazing now some of you have asked me whether investment of your time and gardening is really worth it? Well, look at it this way where else can you just walk into a garden, harvest peas like these, shell and eat them It is such a joy believe me by eating produce that's available in the grocery store all you can do is buy the product and eat it by growing your own there's a different joy that you experience in eating fresh really good food right from your backyard gardening not only lets you produce nice healthy food in your backyard it is also very stress relieving and healing now this green pea plant will give you harvests for a long time as long as the plant grows make sure that you have sufficient space in the trellis because these pea plants will keep producing pods as it grows higher and higher as you can see here is producing all those pods around it and you can get a good harvest from a decent sized pea plant as you can see here this keeps producing pods towards the top and a pea plant will keep producing till its about springtime
