DRIP IRRIGATION WATERING SYSTEM FOR CONTAINERS

hello friends in today's episode I will show you my drip irrigation system for containers now drip irrigation system is an efficient and automated way of watering plants in your garden now let's start with the drip irrigation system I have in my backyard I have a lot of containers and the system waters all these containers automatically at defined intervals depending on the weather and the system connects to any water faucet with the timer and then half inch tubing that you can run all along the length of your side yard or backyard and from the main line we now have emitters, 1/4 inch tubing that feeds into these containers as you can see here and I will explain all the details of all the parts used as we go through the video now here's the system there's a faucet which is connected to an outlet and then to a timer as you can see here now that timer needs to be adapted to to the holes the half inch tubing that will connect to your main system and you can tighten it as you can see here which will secure this connection Now it is recommended that you use a pressure regulator to lower your pressure for a drip irrigation system however in my experience i've seen that doesn't really make a difference so you will not see any pressure regulator here and you can use a lot of emitter types this is a soaker hose you can use Stream bubbler you can use a fan bubbler which increases spray area you can even use a micro spray this is the one that I used in my raised bed system and then you can also use a soaker hose now when using a soaker hose you can change the size of the soaker hose to adapt to the size of your container now I will show you how to add a container to the system so here if here we are using a soaker hose as an emitter as you can see here if you're using a barbed tee that will connect the two ends of the soaker hose so you basically pushing one end into the soaker hose and the other end as well to the Barbed Tee and the toward node of the barbed tee will connect to the quarter inch tubing which in turn will connect to the main line so you first layout your emitter in the container that we are adding and then what we do is we take the quarter inch tubing and then attached it with a barbed connector which will connect to the main line and you will also need a punch to put a hole in your main line you're half inch line and then connect the barbed tee and the barbed tee will now connect the quarter inch tubing to your emitter so this is a fairly simple way of adding new containers to your system as long as you have the main line you can use this technique to add any number of containers and once the system is added you will see that the soaker hose will start dripping water around your plant and the benefit of using a soaker hose as an emitter is that it covers a lot of area around the plant which is a good thing but also requires maintenance and toward the last part of the video I will show you how to maintain your emitters and your soaker hoses so that you get the optimum performance now let's look at my front yard in the front yard I have a similar system that connects two lines one line going to the containers that I have in my front yard and then the same line on the other side feeds into a line that will water all my plants planted and growing in this area that you see here now that's why i like the system you can use the drip irrigation system to connect to any kind of sprayer these are micro sprayers here as you can see here these are the same ones I used in my containers and you can see that they can be efficiently used for plants in the ground as well the technique is the same we've used a main line of half inch tubing and then each container is connected by a quarter inch tubing using a soaker hose in this case so the system has been working very well for me for the past few years it automatically waters my plans even when I'm not here at home and it's something I highly recommend you should be starting a drip irrigation system or any kind of automated watering system at least so that your plants are taken care of while you are away and even otherwise the system does a good job of watering the plants every day now to prevent your emitters from getting clogged you need to maintain it every year or so. Take some dish soap and added it to water I use an aluminum tray because it just gives me a lot of area to clean my emitters with and once you add the dish soap what you need to do is take your emitters and then add them to this aluminum tray and wash them thoroughly now what the dish soap does is that it removes all the dirt and grime from these emitters and then you need to leave this for about three to four hours in this tray and then take it out once done you need to rinse it thoroughly and this should give you clean emitters that do not clog and water well now I usually do this maintenance every one or two years depending on if my emitters are clogged or not now I have a different micro drip irrigation system for my raised bed
